Gaia Spectrum Building Improvements + Additions

Architectural services for exterior and interior changes to a 3,000sf, 1904 brick building used as the headquarters for Gaia. The design integrates the most sustainable features, systems and materials available to the project, including vertical harvesting, intended to reach LEED Platinum, WELL Building Platinum and Living Building Challenge. The conceptual direction applies a modern, free-addressing, open, collaborative atmosphere to a building with great local/regional heritage.

Bell Canyon - image

Architectural services for the planning and design of a unique home in the Los Angeles hills. With nearly 2 acres of bi-sloping land, the property includes an 11,500sf exceptional residence, a separate working studio an avocado orchard and an owner’s vineyard. The main house is three stories with one level set into the hillside. A large plinth creates entry and private outdoor areas including pool, dining and relaxation areas. The lower level contains a 2000 bottle wine storage, lounge area with orchard views and a 4-car garage.

Design of a 25,000 s.f. mixed-use project combining eighteen residential units with 10,000 s.f. of community and office space. This facility takes advantage of a land swap arrangement with the city to recreate a neighborhood streetscape suitable for one, two and three bedroom cooperative apartments. Community spaces serve the residents and others. Office functions create an unparalleled county-wide center for housing services.

The work consisted of analyzing zoning and local codes, analyzing the site and its context, programming the two story building and arriving at a conceptual design that fit within the client’s financial and schedule constraints.

Architectural design of various additions including a Playroom with extending gable roof over a new expanded Dining Room and Entry, the addition of a Storage Room/ Workshop above an existing garage and a new kitchen, master suite, laundry and second bath for a large Cape Cod style home. The process of this project included the application for and award of a change to the inland wetlands mapping in the town of Darien, Connecticut.

This building and site promote a new image for the police department and provide a setting that is open to the public while secure for the occupants. The project was awarded in several ways including LEED Gold and the project team received a Building Team of the Year Award from AIA/LA 2006-2010
