It’s fully a new year — according to both the Roman and lunar calendars — and even nature is beginning to spring forth. At MCTIGUE, we’re seizing the season and moving into the Year of the Horse with new projects and new relationships!

A mixed-use, pod-living project in Southern California, the rebuild of several homes in the Pacific Palisades, and an assisted living project in Connecticut are all things we’ll share more about next issue, but here are the connections and creations that are energizing us right now.

Grant-Funded Healing-Centered Community is Almost Complete!

The Inland Valley Recovery Services Youth Facility is still under construction, but doors will be opening before long! It has been a joy to provide architecture and design services for this therapeutic residential environment for vulnerable youth. 

Quote from Drew: “Creating environments in which youth can be safe and recover from conditions so many face is exactly the kind of work we want to achieve more of this year. This design encompasses liveliness where energy and interaction are beneficial, calm where peace supports healing, safety is felt throughout, and comfort exists in all spaces. We are eager for doors to open soon.”

Housing for the Missing Middle

Another rewarding project focusing on lifestyle, wellness, and community was done in partnership with First Wave Development. We were thrilled to work as the design team with them to envision housing solutions for those seeking resilient, affordable, energy efficient and sustainable living. Modular wall systems inside and out allow for finishes to change and walls to move according to the needs of individuals and families alike. The final result of these two-bedroom homes create community that sustains People, Place, and Planet.

Moving Forward with New Materials and Technology

Whether in a panel conversation about moving home electrification away from gas and toward solar, designing with materials constructed of mycotecture, or fighting fire with infrasound, the new year is already including innovative new materials and systems! We are very excited to do more work with others on this frontier that unites technology and the natural world.
