People. Place. Planet. Conscious Architecture No images? Click here Newsletter: June 2025I continue to reflect on resilience this season. During May’s focus on Mental Health Awareness, there was much meaningful discussion about the Mental, Social, and Spiritual pillars that contribute to resilience beyond the Physical. The same is true for architecture. At MCTIGUE, this means designing to enhance how well people can live, work, and communicate with each other within a space; consciously choosing materials and systems that benefit the building and enhance our planet's longevity; incorporating experiential elements that influence subconscious wellness, and contextualizing the home or building with the surrounding community and people in beneficial ways. We’re grateful to share some of that with you here and now.
As we continue to rebuild in resilient community together, we look forward to more conversation and collaboration with you on these matters. Please stay in touch across our platforms! ![]()
Drew Pedrick, AIA, Founder and CVO, MCTIGUE ![]() Architecture and Mental WellnessAs architects, whether directly or indirectly, we have an impact on the mental wellness of the People who make use of the Place we design. In each project, MCTIGUE works to be a source for positive good, not just in the design itself, but in the human relationships that we form as we collaborate together in community. Mental health care is something in which we can all play a part together. Organizations such as Didi Hirsch and the International Well Building Institute are two we encourage you to learn more about. Meanwhile, we’re currently working on specific projects dedicated to mental wellness. One such project is a Youth Rehabilitation Center in Upland, CA. Residential Rebuilds FAQ's: For the last several months, we’ve added new clients who are rebuilding their homes after the January 2024 fires in Pacific Palisades and Los Angeles . Early conversations with these families remind us that these projects come with a unique opportunity for education. Why, for instance, are architects a good choice for design help? How does collaborating in this way elevate your new home more than simply acquiring drawings for permits? We are honored to be a part of the rebuilding work and want to ensure your comfort with the process — including the time and investment involved. To address these and other questions, Drew shares his thoughts on our blog. If you know others who are beginning a rebuild themselves, please share this with them, as well. ICYMI: Amerigo Vespucci’s World Tour Much of the architectural work we do — homes, offices, restaurants, waterfront buildings, etc. — can require months and even years to evolve from initial drawings to a permitted, completed build ready for move-in. But this time last year we were engaged in an exceptional project that exceeded many of our own norms. Last summer, we converted a 10 acre parcel of land to include a 50,670 sq. foot event location welcoming the Italian Navy vessel Amerigo Vespucci as part of its world tour. We were grateful to partner with Jimmy Pallas and his exceptional team at 9PM in getting these drawings & permits completed in only five weeks time. Beyond being a remarkably fast execution, the site was Consciously designed to leave a very light footprint on the land. It was quickly constructed, deconstructed, and materials reused, with the land cleared in a way that left no sign of destruction post-event. We invite you to learn more about this exhilarating ship and our involvement in its Los Angeles visit! A Conversation with Doug Noll Listening is an essential part of healthy communities and relationships. If you don’t pay attention to what’s being said, what’s being felt, and at times what’s not being said, a project — and a relationship — can be lost. “Listening with Leaders” host Doug Noll has dedicated his podcast to this often underrated skill.
During a congenial and compassionate conversation, Founder and Chief Vision officer Drew Pedrick and Doug share insights on listening, and the ways in which internally-reflective introverts may be particularly well-suited to be the leaders we need to shape healthy and resilient organizations. Congratulations Perkiomen Grads!
